Amaranthine by Joleene Naylor

FLF feel free to snag this for your own posts!

Though I’ve missed a few of these, I still enjoy First Line Friday – the day when you share a first line from something you’re working on, have published, or maybe just jotted down. To participate, title your post #FirstLineFriday (hashtag and all) and feel free to share your link on my blog or on Rami Ungar’s (the brains behind #FLF)

Today’s first line is from Chapter Three of my novel in progress, Masque of the Vampire.

Katelina reflexively pulled to her feat, but Jorick pulled her back down. “They’ll handle it.”

Obviously chapter Two cuts off mid scene with the “dum, dum, dum!” exciting moment, so it makes it hard to judge, I know. Let’s just say someone pulled a sword on one of Katelina’s buddies.

So with that in mind, what do you think? What’s your first line…

Secret Diary Of PorterGirl

I think it might take more than Cupid's arrows to find Head Porter a wife... I think it might take more than Cupid’s arrows to find Head Porter a wife…

It has been quite a day at the Porters’ Lodge and quite deservedly is now resolving itself within the slightly musty embrace of the scoundrels’ retreat that is The Albatross. Except that it isn’t going quite to plan as I have ended up alone the corner, accompanied only by a large bowl of cheesy chips, which are starting to go cold.

You see, the original plan was to have a careful and considered conversation with Head Porter about his recent decision to embark upon a quest for romance. From what little experience I have of his seduction technique, it seems that he has no problem attracting the attentions of the fairer sex. In fact, there have been occasions in the Lodge and again more recently at the wedding of Porter and Detective Sergeant Kirby when…

Character Questions Part II

27 Oct

Amaranthine by Joleene Naylor

cover thingy cropppedAs you may know, the facebook party was a lot of fun (the last of the prizes are even going out today!), though I know some of you couldn’t make it. Because of that, I wanted to share some of the fun with you!

One of the games we played was to ask characters questions. There were some really good ones! So many that I had to break this up. If you missed it, check out Character Questions Part I.

And now for part II: (note there are some spoilers in this one if you haven’t made it through book 7 yet)

Sorino: What are you really after?

Sorino: “To complete my collection, of course. You should see what I have amassed already. Gleaming and glittering under display lights – it is beautiful.”

Sorino, Why do you collect things ?

Sorino: “Why, to keep every one else from having…

Character Questions Part I

26 Oct

Amaranthine by Joleene Naylor

cover thingy croppped(I had planned to post this last week, but computer issues delayed me. Hopefully everything is fixed now)

The Facebook party was a huge success! Thanks so much to everyone who came and played with us. I had so much fun! But, I know that not everyone could make it and, though I’m not giving away prizes, I wanted you to have some fun too!

Today’s post is part one of the character questions from the party. But why stop there? Do you have a question for a character that didn’t get asked? If so, put them in the comments and I will post them with Part II!

Now for the questions (and there are some good ones!)

Verchiel, if you wrote a personal ad what would it say?

Verchiel: “Single hot male vampire seeks female companion, immortality a bonus. I like video games, anime, and bright lights. Enjoy walks…

The last book release didn’t have as much promotion as usual. I skipped the blog tour because despite promotional promises they tend to be more headache than they produce in sales. With that in mind I might just skip it  for the next book, Masque of the Vampire, too. But that doesn’t mean you guys shouldn’t get a chance at some awesome swag! To make sure you do, I am cramming two books’ worth of prizes into one week of Facebook party madness!

And anyone can join. Just go to the event page and click the “going” button.

It’s not just prizes that make a party fun (though I do love them), but there will also be games, discussions, interviews, guest authors, and excerpts from Masque of the Vampire (totally unedited excerpts). Just take a look at the awesome schedule of events.

Conversations with Joleene Naylor

7 Oct

Rami Ungar The Writer

joleene naylor 2 (1)

I think this interview has been a long time in the making, and I’m glad it’s finally happened.

Today’s author is a woman who you might have seen commenting a lot on this blog. She’s an author of several vampire novels, as well as a contributor to Self-Published Authors Helping Other Authors, and a contributor/editor/compiler/whatever to the Ink Slingers’ anthologies, including Strange Portals and the recently published When the Lights Go Out. It’s Joleene Naylor, and I’m looking forward to hearing what she has to say!

Welcome to the blog, Joleene. So tell us, what are your short stories about and what inspired them?

Unforgotten is about a pair of old school chums in the UK who go on an annual trip every year on the same date. This years’ trip is complicated by Gordon’s missing wife and the ghost of a little girl who wants to be found…
