Brand New Poirot Parody!

31 May

Secret Diary Of PorterGirl

It will not have escaped the notice of regular readers that I have a new book coming out soon – The Vanishing Lord – the next instalment of the PorterGirl series. There is great expectation of authors to promote themselves and their work, particularly in the run up to a new release. Quite frankly, there’s only so many times one can say ‘buy my book’ before starting to sound desperate, so I thought what better way to promote my writing by actually… er… writing?

Following the success of Never A Cross Word, it seemed only right and proper to return once more to Agatha Christie’s most famous and arguably best-loved characters, Hercule Poirot and Captain Arthur Hastings for another rip-roaring investigation, carried out with tongue firmly in cheek. In the interest of continuity, the tale does have tenuous links to PorterGirl and Old College, so it isn’t entirely gratuitous.

“Alien: Covenant” (2017) is a first-rate sci-fi horror show with lots of monstery goodness.

25 May

Eric Robert Nolan, Author

I am part of a happy minority where “Alien Covenant” (2017) is concerned — I keep hearing about “meh” or negative reactions from my friends, but I quite enjoyed it.  I’d rate it a 9 out of 10.

No, this second installment in the “Alien” prequel trilogy doesn’t bring much new to the table.  It often seems like a collection of common tropes, and borrows a bit from previous films in the franchise — especially the first movie in 1979.  Some aspects of it — like a predictable and slightly gimmicky development late in the story — even feel like horror movie cliches.  (I am doing everything I can to avoid spoilers, so forgive how vague I’m being here.)  “Alien: Covenant” isn’t groundbreaking, and it isn’t destined to be called a “classic.”

Here’s the thing, though — all of the movie’s common tropes are exactly what make fans happy.  Think about…

Amaranthine by Joleene Naylor

The Amaranthine series may be at an end with Goddess of Night, but the Amaranthine Universe is far from done. There are too many characters who want their day in the spotlight, and too many stories to be told. So, without the series proper, what’s next? Here are my tentative plans:

Shorts:

2017/2018 will be the year of the short stories. I plan to at least finish the Executioner collection. To find out when a new FREE short story is published, be sure to follow my blog and sign up for the newsletter. In 2018, the plan is to start on some new…

Novels:

Micah & Loren – Though the gang was out west, Micah still didn’t make it to California. It’s time he remedied that with a vampire road trip!

Jorick – Everyone wants to know what Jorick did before he met Katelina.

Jamie & Verchiel – Is…

The Lib Dems Know Something We Don’t

17 May

Secret Diary Of PorterGirl

Tim Farron, much like of the rest of the UK, is musing upon the actual point of the Liberal Democrats. With an ambiguous policy on homosexuality and a pathological intention to overturn Brexit, the party is neither particularly liberal nor especially democratic, it would seem. As he strokes a chin untroubled by stubble or growth of any kind, his lovely wife Rosie stumbles abruptly into the room.

“Oh my!” she exclaims. “Who are you and what are you doing in my lounge?”

“Why, I am Tim Farron!” Tim replies. “Leader of of Liberal Democrats. Your husband.”

Rosie squints slightly, before nodding with some relief.

“Oh yes. Of course you are.”

Tim sighs. If it hadn’t been for the upcoming general election, no one would know who he was at all.

“Tim, I’m doing some breakfast. Would you like a cup of tea?”

“Many people like a hot beverage with breakfast…
